Strawberry season has recently begun. But what’s inside these little red berries and which health benefits do they have?

There is nothing like fresh strawberries in summer! There are a few reasons to eat a lot of them because they are packed with nutrients.

These are only some health benefits of strawberries:


Low in calories

Strawberries contain only 32 calories per 100 g and consist to 90% of water. This makes them a perfect fresh and light snack.

Great source of vitamic C

There is a lot of vitamins in strawberries, like vitamin A, E and K. Their content of vitamin C is even higher than from citrus fruits. If strawberries are very red, this is a sign for a lot of vitamin C in it.

Rich in folate and iron

Strawberries are rich in folate (the folic acid found in food) and rich in iron. This is important for pregnant women and can help when you suffer from anaemia.

Good for heart and bones

There is a lot of calcium in strawberries, which can prevent osteoporosis. They also contain a high amount of potassium and magnese which cane save your heart.

Full of phytonutrients

Strawberries are packed with phytonutrients, for example polyphenols, which can prevent cancer and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and inflammations. They also contain antioxidants, which are scavengers to free-radicals and neutralize the potentially negative effect they can have on our cells.

Help against gout

Salicylic acid, which occurs naturally in strawberries, can reduce pain from gout and rheumatism.
