Are you a real adventurer? Then exciting holiday moments await you in spring - on your next camping trip! Trips in a campervan or van are becoming increasingly popular, as they are simply a casual and comfortable way to travel. But what about sustainability? It's clear: camping can also be really eco-friendly! Here are our tips for sustainable camping so that your adventure in the great outdoors is not only unforgettable, but also environmentally friendly.

Tip 1: Take Biodegradable Cosmetics with You

A good tip for sustainable camping is to consciously choose natural and biodegradable care products. Instead of using conventional shampoos, soaps and toothpastes, you can switch to sustainable alternatives. There are now many products on the market that are biodegradable, contain no harmful chemicals and come in environmentally friendly packaging. These products are not only better for the environment, but also for water and soil. Pay attention to the relevant information on the product labels and check whether they meet the desired ecological standards.

Tip 2: Rely on Durable Camping Utensils

Want to camp in a more eco-friendly! way? There's another way: invest in durable camping equipment and utensils. Durable products not only reduce waste, but also accompany you on many adventures. Think about which items are really necessary and choose high-quality, sustainable alternatives. Instead of disposable crockery, you could opt for reusable cups and plates, buy high-quality, durable tents and sleeping bags made from environmentally friendly materials and take reusable water bottles with you.

Tip 3: Tackle Nature Conservation On Site

Get involved in nature conservation wherever you are camping. Stick to marked trails to protect fragile ecosystems. Respect wildlife by only observing animals from a distance without disturbing them. Avoid feeding wild animals or interfering with their natural behaviour. You can even volunteer to take part in local ecological projects such as clean-up campaigns or tree planting during your holiday and actively contribute to the protection of nature. It's good for people and the environment! We at Dole also love nature. We are committed to protecting it in order to reduce our impact and strengthen habitats. We are pursuing the goal of zero waste in all lettuce processing plants by 2030 and are also aiming to reduce food waste in harvesting and processing systems by 50% by then. And by 2025, all Dole packaging in all business areas should be 100% either recyclable or compostable.

Tip 4: Know Energy-Saving Hacks

Reduce your energy consumption when camping with simple hacks. Use solar-powered chargers, LED lamps and switch off electronic devices completely when they are not in use. This applies in particular to mobile phones, tablets and other devices. For cooking, simply use a solar cooker.  It uses solar energy to heat food and does not require an additional energy source. Be aware of how much energy your devices consume and plan your energy requirements accordingly. Limit the use of electronic devices and try alternative methods where possible. This way you can minimise your ecological footprint when camping and enjoy nature to the full.

Tip 5: Follow the “Leave-No-Trace" Principle

Follow the "leave-no-trace" principle, which says: don't leave any rubbish behind and change nature as little as possible. Separate any waste and take it home with you. Make sure that your campsite looks just as you found it. If permitted, use campfires instead of creating new ones. Make sure that the fire is completely extinguished before you leave the campsite. Respect the natural sounds of the environment and minimise unnecessary noise. Avoid loud music and respect the silence of nature. This will keep nature intact and preserve it for future generations.

Out into nature!
