Yikes – autumn again already? If you haven't yet discovered the pleasure of sweet plums, you will need to hurry. Our plum season only lasts until the end of October. This versatile stone fruit not only tastes delicious on its own or in a cake but is also good for the digestion and a healthy nervous system. So simply let the summer fade away sweetly.

Everything is plum

Strictly speaking, “plum” is just an umbrella term for more than 2,000 known species of the fruit. The four most famous types are the plum, damson, greengage and yellow plum. They differ in size, shape, colour and taste. The plum is mostly plump and spherical, its colour ranges from a bluish violet to yellow, green and even red. Its sweetness is due to its high fructose level. It also provides us with numerous vitamins like provitamin A, vitamin B, C, E and K, as well as zinc, calcium and copper.

Power for the digestive system

Plums contain cellulose and pectin, which are fibres. These are not digested and swell up in the digestive tract. Plums therefore have a laxative effect and can help with constipation. Dried plums in particular or the prune juice that is extracted from them are proven home remedies in such cases.
