The Health Stats Men Can’t Afford to Ignore This Month
A Guide to Men’s Health
June marks Men’s Health Month—at Dole, we’re using it as a reminder that taking care of your body and mind is not just a goal, but a lifelong priority. Our aim is to empower men to take charge of their well-being with preventive care, smart lifestyle choices, and consistent support.
The Reality: Men’s Health in Numbers
Men live, on average, five years less than women and are more likely to suffer from heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Men also visit the doctor less frequently and are less likely to engage in preventive health screenings. The result? Many serious conditions go undetected until it’s too late.
It’s time to reverse that trend.
Take Action: Healthy Habits to Embrace
1. Schedule Routine Screenings: Stay current with physicals and tests for cholesterol, diabetes, and cancer screenings, particularly colorectal and prostate.
2. Eat for Health: A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains can reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Minimize red meat, sugar, and processed foods.
3. Move More: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Regular physical activity improves cardiovascular health, boosts mood, and helps maintain a healthy weight.
4. Mind Your Mental Health: Men often suffer in silence. Depression, anxiety, and stress are real and treatable. Don't hesitate to talk to a counselor or seek support when needed.
5. Sleep Well: Sleep is a pillar of good health. Men should aim for 7–9 hours of sleep each night to allow the body to recover and reset.
6. Quit Smoking & Limit Alcohol: These habits significantly increase your risk for cancer, liver disease, and heart conditions. Seek help if quitting is difficult.
Good health doesn’t happen in isolation. Encourage open conversations with doctors and loved ones to share goals, challenges, and progress. Whether it's starting a new workout routine, seeking counseling or attending an annual check-up, having support makes a difference.
