Veggie through the summer
Do you enjoy a hot dog at the swimming pool or like to take meatballs with you for a picnic? Then why not try a veggie version of these foods this summer? After all, a plant-based diet is an important factor in better animal welfare and climate protection. At the same time, fruit and vegetables will provide you with valuable vitamins, minerals, fibre and phytochemicals. And juicy fruit provides the perfect summer refreshment, doesn’t it? Some of our ideas for snacks on hot days – try our banana wholegrain sandwich with cranberries and figs or salad wrap with pulled banana.

Try a natural swimming pool
Open-air swimming pool, bathing lake or sea? In summer, the opportunity to cool off in the water is often at our front door. If you are looking for an environmentally friendly swim, why not try a natural swimming pool? No chlorine is used and the water is treated purely biologically. As a result, the water has a somewhat greenish appearance. It also contains sand, plants and even insects. If you want to swim close to nature, this version of the traditional swimming pool could be for you.
-
Wear environmentally friendly clothes
In summer, the ideal clothing should be airy, light and cooling. The best natural materials to choose are linen, cotton or silk. Synthetic fibres, on the other hand, do not absorb moisture well and are less breathable. Fair fashion is on trend! For a sustainable summer look, the manufacturing method is important. Organic labels use high-quality raw materials that are cultivated in an environmentally friendly way. This helps both people and the environment. Watch out for labels like IVN Best, GOTS and Made in Green by Oeko-Tex.

Choose water-friendly sun protection
Sunscreen is designed to protect your skin in summer from harmful UV rays. But did you know that there are major differences when it comes to environmental impact? Some active ingredients in sunscreen can be harmful to marine life and corals. So it is worth taking a look at the tube before your next holiday. Synthetic and chemical ingredients can also damage the sensitive ecosystem in our lakes and seas. Sunscreen should therefore never contain octinoxate or oxybenzone. Play it safe by choosing a mineral-based sunscreen that does not contain nanoparticles.
